IDE connector and new MOBo with SATA

Hi all,
It is becoming very difficult to keep up with technology;
I bought a brand new 80GB HDD, with an IDE connector (now i know why it was not expensive), before purchasing my new HP PC. Now i would like to add that HDD to the PC. I have one 2 IDE connectors on the board one for the DVDcomb and the other is a small one for the floppy (which is not used). On the other hand i have 4 SATA connectors one blue and yellow and 2 white i think. One of the SATA is used by the exsisting HDD. What do i do to add the HDD with the IDE connector? Can i connect it as a slave with the DVDcombo? if there is an adaptor SATA to IDE, which SATA connector do i connect it to on the Mobo?

you can run two ide devices off any ide plug on the motherboard. If you have two disk drives you can unplug one and use the hard drive instead. If you have one drive then the cable should have another plug for the hard drive, or if not go get a cable that does have two connections on it. I've never heard of a sata to ide, I've heard of pci to sata, so maybe there's a pci to ide if you're lucky

Okay i do not think i explained myself clearly. I have a mother board with 1 IDE and 4 SATA. 1 DVDcombo, 2 HDD one with SATA type connector and the other with regular IDE connector. the IDE port is used by the DVDcombo, not other IDE's available to use with the HDD. What do i do?

this site has an SATA to IDE adaptor:

But i was just seeing if there is an easier way to do it with what i have, e.g connecting the second HDD, on the same cable going to the DVDcombo and make it a salve or a master depending on what is permissable, but my intuition tells me it is not going to work that way.

thank for your reply look forward to hearing yours and others inputs

i've seen these on ebay and in a compusa. they exist. been lookin into gettin one myself:D

there shouldn't be any reason why you can't plug the hard drive into the one that goes to the burner. Don't even worry about jumpers at first. As long as your motherboard supports two devices per IDE plug (the vast majority do) you can plug it in to the open plug that should be on your IDE cable. If there isn't another plug on the IDE cable, go the the store and buy one that does.

ok Suprasteve i will try to plug the second HDD on the same IDE line used by the burner and wont worry about jumper. Later i will set the jumpers to CS and things should work hopefully.

Thanks for your help
