IDE controller issue?

Im not sure if this is where i should post this.

I'm trying to resurect my old dell optiplex to give to a friend of mine. it worked fine when i took the CD drive and hard drive out of it. I put the original cd drive that came w/ the machine back in and put in a new hdd, but bios does not detect either device, only the floppy drive. Is this an issue with the IDE controller? If so how do I fix the problem?

It's running bios revision A09 for a dell optiplex GX150. Pentium celeron 1.2Ghz, 256mb sdram, 12 or 13 gig hdd which it is not detecting, Im not sure about the cd rom drive.

Also tryed update bios drivers to A10, but the dell site says you need to boot in DOS mode, cant seem to do that either. BTW both devices work in my other computer.

any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.

its not the jumpers. both the the hdd and cd drive are set to master.

OK, so just to make sure - you've put them both on different IDE channels (i.e. connected with different cables)? You can't have two masters on the same IDE channel.

If you haven't already, i'd check in the BIOS to make sure that the onboard IDE controller is actually enabled.

Lack of patience and lack of patience and lack of time at present leads me to close this thread. thank you for attempting to assist me on this.
