hi i have just built a new pc using a sata hdd is it ok for me to use my old ide drive as a slave drive as well or do i have to buy another sata drive my system is not on a raid

Some pc's work ok if you plug the old IDE into the ide ribbon.. Yet mine didnt. Whenever i would open anything on it, the clicking noise which usually is a short *click* would echo for about 3 seconds... Yes bad lag. in that case just go buy a little IDE to SATA convertor.. mine was like 30. It plugs right into the back of the HD.

you can add a device if there is room for it. SATA works in seperate channels per device, whereas IDE uses one channel for two devices... hence the master and slave options.
yea, as long as youve got room in your case and space for an ide expansion then sure, you can use IDE and SATA hard drives.

Well Mine was maybe a Dell issue, They said it was REQUIRED to have the converter.. I tried just pluging it in and trying it... Did not work. Anyway, doesnt hurt to give it a try. :)

Sounds like you may have had some faulty hardware an Dell was trying to fobb you off. There's no reason at all that this shouldn't work, it's an extremely common thing to do.
