Identifying Graphics Card

My PC completely failed last night requiring me to format my hard drive & re-install Windows Vista. The problem I have is that Vista hasn't picked up my Display or Graphics drivers. I'm not even sure what make the cards are. The PC only says Parkard Bell on it as well, no model number so I'm unable to search it online. Is there any free way I can detect what drivers are required? Many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if it will tell you without drivers, but you can check with GPUz if it will show up what you have. You can download it from here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1898i/GPU-Z.0.4.8.exe

Should that fail to tell you, you can try using a driver detective program, but DON'T install the drivers they tell you to, use them only to tell you the drivers for the type of card you are missing. You can use the Driver detector from the Intel website, found here:

http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm?iid=dc_iduu

Once it tells you the manufacturer/family of graphics, go to the ATi or Nvidia website to download them:

ATi: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

There is a chance, if it is an Intel motherboard, that it will have Intel graphics, if that is the case, you can download Intel graphics drivers from here:

  • Go to Piriform's website, and click the big button. Next, click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
  • After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
  • Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

    speccyx.png

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot You will see the following prompt:

    publish.png

Click Yes , then Copy to Clipboard

    copydi.png

Now, right-click on any empty space in your reply box and click Paste.

You have just posted your specs!

The model number is usally listed on the back side on a sticker.
