well i forgot about my moms pictures on my computer and formated my hd is there a free program that can get some or all back?
 
I wouldn't use the hard drive for anything until you recover those pictures because of the chance you can accidently overwrite them. If the pictures aren't overwritten you can likely recover them. I know of no other way other than paying someone to do hard drive recovery and that is expensive.

I always backup valuable data that way I have a number of extra copies. You might give her an 8 gigabyte USB flash drive in the future to do data backups and encourage her to use it. Good luck.
 
if you take it somewhere to pay someone to do data recovery, all theyre gonna do is attempt to recover your stuff using data recovery software.

Why not download it yourself and save a couple hundred bucks?

Get Data Back
Recover My Files
Data Recovery Wizard

whatever you do, do NOT write anything to that drive until you've attempted to recovery data from it. it will decrease the chances of finding your lost pictures

wouldnt it depend though on if he did a quick format or a full format? I don't have any experience with file recovery software but doesnt a quick format work the same as just deleting the files in windows and the full format actually overwrites the data?

the way that software works, at least the most recent versions that ive tested, it will recover files from a current partition, or a previous partition that was written over. Data recovery software has become more powerful in recent years especially to be able to recover data from previously destroyed partitions.

having said that he still has a way better chances of finding those few files he wants if the drive was only quick formatted, and no new data has been written since.

well im using the hd right now. but i all ways do a quick format. i use one of programs but it was just a trial
