Idle BSOD

So I noticed a strange issue ever since I overclocked my Q6600...I never used it at stock but for one day before overclocking though.

The issue I get is once in a blue moon (maybe once every 2-3 weeks) I will get a BSOD when I am idle on my PC. I just get the "error" message and the dump file never seems to be there when I try to find it. It has never bsod when I was actually at the PC...always when I was away from it.

I run memtest and it passes and prime95 for roughly a hour and no issues occurred.

Temps atm are 31-30-24-27 idle and with 1 hour prime95 55-54-50-52 @ 1.350v

Now I never get them when in the middle of a game or anything like that yet...been playing COD world at war and the 2 times it has happened I was afk...and away from my PC.

Currently memory is @ 1:1 so DDR2 800 running at those speeds.

Should I run Prime95 longer perhaps or feed it a wee bit more voltage?

Seems like I am not the only one.

Though I wanna make sure its not me first....so I am very cautious ^-^

Found the Dump file...had to go into safe mode to actually see it how strange. Also why this site wont allow me to upload a .dmp file is nuts.

Turn down the overclocking a bit then? If you and other people find the CPU unstable at clock speed X then you need to dial it back. There are limits to how much a CPU can be overclocked.

Well its stable in every test I throw at it from Prime95 to Memtest...it also only happens when idle and only has happened twice in over 1-2 months.

If it was unstable I would imagine I would get a error with Prime95 and I would get more frequent BSOD while playing games etc.
Reason I left the minidump I need to know if its the overclock or perhaps Vista.

Running HDD tests now will take roughly 1 hour to cycle through them all.

try something else to test it, prime95 only utilizes 1 core. run 4 instances of superpi 32m or something. You can assign them to a specific core in windows task manager

You sure because Coretemp is showing 100% core usage atm and temps are 50-55 depending on what test. So is Vista. I think the newer version has 4 core support.

yeah I figured as such since that was the original problem with the program when I heard people speak of it.

I got a error 8 mins in this time on prime95 so I upped the voltage...so far so good 1 hour in. Going to let it run for 2 hours while I watch a movie.

Its strange it just now errored though....have done 2-3 runs with prime95 since then and no issues but now its a issue. I wonder if my MBs vdroop has anything to do with it.

Least I found the answer to my question. Thanks for the help :)
