IE 8 question

I am using IE 8 on a new computer running Vista Premium on a 64 bit Dual core processor. I am on dsl in a rural setting.
My problem is when I click on a link to open in a new tab, about 75% of the time it just goes nowhere. I do not even get a no connection error. It just sits still waiting for the site. No matter what site. This happens occasionally when I open a new page also.
I appreciate any help. This gets frustrating.

Could be a number of things, but I recommend using firefox or chrome anyway. IE is too unreliable even with the latest release. Try checking your internet settings and testing your internet connection. The details you have listed are far too vague to really put a diagnosis on this sort of problem.

Thanks for the response. I have started using firefox and I seem to have the same problem with it. I am on a small network and my computer is the only one having this problem. My old computer with the same ethernet connection did not have this problem either. Only my new computer that runs the 64 Vista. Still trying to figure it out if anyone has a solution.
Appreciate any help.

If it's a small network maybe it's just congestion on the lines. I know that happened alot when I lived in rural Iowa and the DSL company just told me to deal with it and tried to offer me some crappy DSL filters which had nothing to do with my problem at all. Does this issue happen everytime or only some of the time. DSL seemed to bog down during peak times when I lived in an all DSL apartment building as well.

Is this computer wired or connecting through wireless? I find that when people on other computers in the house are doing things like downloading music or streaming videos my internet connection on wireless is hopelessly slow.

There are a few programs that will adjust your settings, but I think the best way to get an accurate look would to be running a speedtest on the computer with the problem and then running a speedtest on your 'working' computers. Another thing, have you already tried a power cycle on the modem/router? I've never used Vista so I really am not so sure where to begin diagnosing a network connection problem on there... I'll read up.
