IE acting strange after infection removal

I have ran MWB and SAS to remove infections that had caused the computer to go blank after logging on to Windows (only could see a cursor). All functions have come back but when using Internet Explorer some pages will not load (IE cannot display web page, especially from search results).

I am running windows firewall and Avast (which randomly displays popups near bottom of screen stating it has blocked activity to harmful sites).

This leads me to believe something is still wrong. Below are my latest HJT and MWB logs. Any help would be appriciated.

Please download and run TDSSkiller

When the program opens, click on the start scan button.

TDSSKiller will now scan your computer for the TDSS infection. When the scan has finished it will display a result screen stating whether or not the infection was found on your computer. If it was found it will display a screen similar to the one below.

To remove the infection simply click on the Continue button and TDSSKiller will attempt to clean the infection.

When it has finished cleaning the infection you will see a report stating whether or not it was successful as shown below.

If the log says will be cured after reboot, please reboot the system by pressing the reboot now button.

I ran the TDSSKILLER scan.

The log stated C:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\netby.sys will be cured after reboot.
 
After restarting Windows update went crazy, over 50 updates! I went through 3 cycles of updates and things seem to be running much smoother now.

I ran a MWB scan and it came up clean.

TDSS sure is a nasty one. How nice that there is a dedicated killer for this infection.

Thank you again John for your help. I can't help but wonder how you look at those logs and are able to determine that something is amiss. Is there training available to help one learn this valuable skill?

As before, are there clean up steps still required?

Download Security Check from here or here
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

It looks like you are using Avast version 4. Version 5 is currently out. Are you using paid or free version.
 
What should be an easy question is not quite so. This is a cousins' computer. He gave it to me to have a look after he heard about my endeavor with this excellent forum regarding my computer you recently advised on.

I told him to set up an account and see what you could do for him. He did not feel comfortable in doing so, and here we are.

I did notice however that when I first recieved his computer there was a CD-R in the drive labeled as AVG - AVAST - DAEMON TOOLS. I assumed he, or someone else, had tried to load these free scanners from a CD as he couldn't access his computer (as noted in the first post regarding the black screen after login).

I would guess he is using the free version, is there a way to tell or does it even matter for the sake of upgrading to version 5?
