IE, Itunes, and Adobe cant connect to internet

But Firefox and other programs will. I dont know what the problem is but its been like this for a while. Ive tried updating them all, and doing everything I could think of. The message I get from Itunes

"Itunes could not connect to the Itunes Store. The Network Connection timed out.

Make sure your network settings are correct, and your network connection is active, then try again."

Im on the internet right now, so thats working. When I run the "Diagnose Connection" wizard it tells me this:

If you are on the internet now then port 80 is not blocked. For iTunes you need to unblock port 3689 on TCP and UDP. To do this in windows firewall click on the general tab and make sure it is set to allow exceptions (uncheck the box if necessary). Then click the exceptions tab. From there click the add port button (you can use add program if you want, then just find the itunes program). The add port dialog looks like this:

You'll have to add 2 ports, 1 for TCP and 1 for UDP, they are both the same number (3689) however.

You should be able to just add the adobe program to the exceptions list but if you just want to open the specific port it uses you'll have to find what number and protocol it's using. If you tell me which program it is (ie Acrobat Reader) then I can look it up.
 
On the first picture I am showing that it is allowing exceptions.

The second picture, I added both ports, TCP and UDP both with the port number 3689.

The third one I added the program Itunes, none of them worked. I cant figure this out for the life of me, can you maybe tell whats wrong from the pictures?

Before we beat the firewall to death, try turning off the firewall and see if iTunes can connect. You can turn the firewall back on after.
If it can connect with the firewall off we know that it is the problem, otherwise we'll have to look for other causes.
 
Hey Cromewell, I tried with the firewall off and it still isnt working. I have a feeling that IE, Itunes, and ADOBE all cant connect because of the same reason. I just dont know what that reason is. Thanks for your help again, and if you have any more ideas Im willing to try anything.

Do you use a proxy? ( To check go to Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, go the the Connections tab, near the botton of the window click LAN Settings, then take a screen shot and repost)


Also try setting your Internet Explorer security settings back to medium to do this follow these steps:
Click Start
Go to Control Panel
Open Internet Options
Select the Security tab
Click Custom Level
Under Reset to: choose Medium (it should look like this Reset to: Medium)
Click Reset
Click OK on the Security Settings page and on the Internet Options page
Close Any IE windows and then reopen IE.

Since you can post here you must be connected and port 80 at the very least is open.
For IE it's not sonething silly like being set to work offline is it? (File->Work Offline)
 
are you behind a router? If so how is your router set up? I can only assume it is acting as your DHCP server...?? correct?
 
okay on the router do you have the proper ports forwarded? Are you running any QoS? How are you getting an IP to your computer, DHCP from the router?
 
Unless the proxy server is essential to your internet working, try disabling it for now.
Go back to the LAN Setting pages that you were at and uncheck the box that reads Use a proxy server for your LAN
Then click OK, and Also click OK on the internet options window.
Try IE , Adobe and Itunes again.
 
holdenssx - Thanks man that finally fixed it. If your not busy, can you explain what that actually does, the proxy server, and what I disabled. Will it cause any problems with any other programs? Thanks a bunch man! And also thanks to everyone who helped.

why were you running a proxy server to begin with? Here is what a proxy server does:

It basically means that a proxy server is a server that will be inbetween you and another server and relay communications between. Just like if someone were to act on your behalf in a business transaction, they could be called your proxy. When connected to a proxy server it then sends/receives information on its end and then sends it back to the client. So, you never actually travel to each destination the proxy server does for you. These are in place for security and management issues at times on larger networks.

I didn't realize you were running a proxy...

First off a proxy server is basically a buffer between the rest of the internet and your computer. The proxy server that you were using was known as an anonymous proxy server. Anonymous proxy servers hide your IP address and also hides any information about your computer from websites that you access. But as you've found out proxy servers can sometimes intefere with programs on your computer. The reason that the server you were using didn't work was most likely because the proxy was no longer up and running. Personally, I do not think anonymous proxy servers are very important, but maybe some others could give some input on this.
What you disabled shouldn't cause any problems with any other programs.

I didnt know I was running a proxy server. I know I didnt click that button lol, but oh well. Anyway, thanks again, Im just glad its working and thankful people like you guys are here to help people like me,
