IE Task Bar and Address bar

After I start-up IE in Win 7, the IE icon shows I have multiple pages running. when I click on the icon, they appear and I then delete them. The same for multiple tabs appearing on my address bar at the top. I can also delete them.
After shutdown and restarting my laptop later on, the same tabs appear. How can I get rid of them everytime I start-up.

You most likely have multiple home pages set. Open Internet options and make sure you only have 1 home page set.
