IE virus?

When I try to use Internet Explorer now, it goes crazy. It automatically tries to load a page with this name:

(Warning: I would not click that link if I were you, unless you know more than I do about whether it is safe or not)

http://www.404ads.net:8000/redirect...525253A8000%252525252525252525252Fredirect%25

It flashes between cannot find server and something else for a while until it stops at the cannot find server page.

I don't have this problem when loading a link stored on my hard drive.

Fortunately I don't normally use IE, but it's annoying that I can't now!

How do I fix this?

well he said he doesn't normally use IE so he's probably on FF or Opera. Have you tried blocking the site in Internet Options? You can block anything from a certain site by using a *. For example, http://www.popups.com/*

You probably just got spyware or a browser hijacker. Since you said you don't normally use IE, I assume your not up to the most current security patches, so it must of been the flaw in IE. Just run a good anti-spyware, even anti-virus to see if it'll remove it. If not, it's probably deeper than that and you might have to go through a hijack log. All information can be found here:

Yeah, this is a hijack. You should be posting this in the security forum, where you'll probably get help a lot quicker.

Thanks to everyone. I hadn't received notification of replies (I thought I had that enabled).

Try using Firefox, I use it and i dont have any problems.

I normally use firefox, but sometimes I find IE useful, especially since most sites are designed for IE and some don't function as well on FF.

"Have you tried blocking the site in Internet Options? You can block anything from a certain site by using a *. For example, http://www.popups.com/*"

I tried blocking but it didn't help.

I installed the latest version of IE and it has fixed the problem. It was an old version that I didn't bother updating in the past.

I prefer FF because I like to open in new tabs.

Thanks for your help guys.
