If I buy this GPU will i need to upgrade any pre-existing parts it?

I really want to get a new card after the gtx 670 that I have isn't cutting it, I am looking at a r9 290x or gtx 960 I wan't to be able to run games like dying light atleast pretty smoothly no need to max out setting but at least on high.
I also notice the 290x is a tiny bit cheaper than the 970 does it perform about the same as the 970?

Currently my Specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-ud3
PSU: Corsair: CX600
GPU: msi gtx 670
Processor AMD Phenom II X4 960T Zosma Quad-Core 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W

So yea, I'd enjoy either of the 2 cards but I probably wont be able to upgrade if i need to upgrade my cpu also. PSU I can probably handle.

EDIT: messed up in my title should be upgrade any pre-existing parts of my pc.

I think you'll run into a bottleneck with the CPU, but the PSU should be okay. I recommend checking out the 280/280X.. The GTX 960 is underpowered compared to these cards.. The GTX 970 is comparable to the 280X/290.

My 2¢

how much of a lower efficiency would I see because of the bottlenecking? Heck, I'd hope bottle-necking isn't the reason my gtx 670 is the way it is (doubtful). But I would much prefer a new card I'll check out the two R9s you mentionded

Have you tried unlocking your 960T to a 6 core? If you have a aftermarket cooler, have you tried overclocking it?

I want to overclock it but I don't have an aftermarket cooler but if it will allow me to be able to utilize the r9 gpus and not bottleneck then I would have no problem purchasing an aftermarket cooler for the sake of better running gpu. If you can recommend a good aftermarket cooler feel free.

I also heard the same thing that I should be able to unlock my cpu on this forum before and I tried and i remember putting this as my result

I see the enabled button for cpu unlock but i do not see the 3 other cores show up, all i see is cpu 0, 1 ,2,3

It was in the bios but the other 3 cores do not show up so im unsure If i can unlock it I remember people saying sometimes the other cores are faulty.

As far as you power supply. Most have the minimum power supply requirements as a 750 watt. You would be pushing the CX600. Anything would be better then the OEM cooler even a 20 buck Hyper TX3 or jump to a 35 buck 212 EVO. Plus have you tried to unlock it to a 6 core?

I have in the bios but the other cores do not appear in the bios its as if nothing change as in I unlock but the cores stay as 0 1 2 3.
I've check around and some people have said that the cx600 should be enough for the gpus, do you mean i'd need a 750 watt If i plan on overclocking?

Probably goign to buy on Ebay but right now im looking at 290 which si around 200 on ebay

psu: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-New-Ve...490?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item462bb173aa

and maybe an aftermarket fan for if I want to OC pretty sure I will want to I don't want to get bottlenecked

Also quick question I need some ram because one of my sticks went bad, are any ram stick compaitble even if the they are different brands in the slots?

Also last thing, trying really hard to save money, I know the cpu would bottle neck but how bad is the bottlenecking? I would eventually want to OC but if I could make do with my cx 600 and be in the 40-60 frames then I can wait patiently. Unless running a r9 290 on a cx600 would be detrimental to my pc?

An R9 290 would be cutting it close.. Here's the PSU you want: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx750m

The bottleneck won't be horrible, but you'll know when your CPU isn't keeping up.

For example I was playing Skyrim today. Maxed out quality settings, but when riding a horse around, the game had a few lag spikes.

Different RAM brands are fine as long as it's the same speed/size..

I see, after research I purchased a cx750m, r9 290, 212 EVO, and some more ram to replace my bad one, Oh and some thermal paste so hopefully it'll all go good.
