If it was impossible to pirate Windows...

well i use linux already its a great os-for serving- windows is good for useability and drivers (i am STILL Working on geting my wireless to work on linux.... well i took a 2 year break :)) but no, i never pireted a version on windows. all my copies are serial numbers i wrote down from all my computers that are servers or otherthings and use it when i need it.
 
No, I'd buy it. It's not that expensive and, at the moment with my 16 years (erm, in couple of days) I don't feel the need for Linux, Windows is just perfect for me :D
Also, that's a good trick question, it will show how many people use illegal copy hehe
 
The whole question is stupid. I have a stack of legit windows CDs and still use and have linux on some computers. If your using Linux because you cant crack Windows your using it for the wrong purpose.
 
well i dont need to pirate windows as both the Xp on my old rig and Vista Ultimate on my new is legit.

but if i was a baddy and did only use pirated copys of windows then no i still wouldnt use linux.

its just no good for gamers,i would just buy windows :)
 
i don't play games and if windows was THAT expensive and couldn't be pirated at all of course i'd use linux,but i know, that i used Access a lot and office Base just wouldn't fo the job.
Stranglehold let me tell you some of us can't afford to purchase a legit windows version, let alone buy office 2000, so you have to walk in somebody's shoes first.
Am so glad my dell is legit !! but then again i wasn't the one who purchased it

I havent always been in a position to just go out a buy what ever I wanted, believe me and I admit it, I have probable cracked everything there is to be at one time or another. All I was saying was just because you cant crack Windows does mean thats the reason you should try Linux.

we need to keep in mind that the OP did not say anything about us cracking windows but "if it was impossible"..since lets say right now it was impossible of course i will download either PCLINUX or suse for my desktop, we don't have Macs here, and believe me when i say we don't have any pc stores/retailers that sells windows (any version) cd's , we don't. they sell only hardware....
My country is not the same as yours, so...u know my view is different
 
MS is failing in many markets outside the USA, mainly third world countries were a copy of windows vista is more than a monthly salary for some people, so of course they are going to pirate it. Why spend $300 to buy a copy of Vista legally in China when you can buy it on the street for $1.00?

I've pretty much ditched windows as my personal OS for Linux and OS X, with the one exception of gaming. So, my windows usage is pretty much reduced to gaming, and once gaming becomes more compatible on Linux and OS X, I don't see myself using windows at all any more.

I think it is only a matter of time before that happens.

I think many of you get the wrong idea about this post. It's not supposed to be a "tricky" poll to find out who uses a cracked version, all I want is numbers. The reason is because I was reading a very interesting article about how most people ignore Linux because in their eyes Windows is free. And it's not only the people getting the torrents who think this, it's also the people who get a copy of it from some guy they know. The author of the article was saying that he believes that if Windows was impossible to crack lots of people would be using Linux. I just want to know how much truth there is to that. :)
 
Yeah well when windows becomes impossible to crack that will also mean that, pigs can fly, hell froze over, the KC Chiefs will win the super bowl, I'll win the powerball, the KC Royals win it all and beat the holy crap out of the Yankees, and of course Linux will then become the most widely used OS.

It is not always a good idea to make assumptions off of big ifs, and MS making an OS impossible to crack is a HUGE if. It may go down that road eventually with DRM, but there are companies and people fighting against DRM because in the end it hurts the consumer, that is you all if you didn't know.
