if you pc doesnt play the latest game(s)* out are you the sort of person who will upgrade part of your machine or if worst comes to worst build an entire new gaming rig, coz im having this problem now and OMG its so hard not to press the buy button on scans website im building an entire new rig and its gonna cost me £550, please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??!!!!!!!!!

It depends what games you want to play, and what you need. I'm in the process of building a system for my sister, but having to stagger getting parts because of her income. Either way, it is about £100 less than yours and will be able to play every single game out now, but that doesn't include monitor, mouse, keyboard or OS
 
mine would be 360 but im getting a SSD so bumping it up to 580

oh well that would explain a lot then. Can you not just keep a hard drive for now and get the SSD later. With the system you have now, you would upgrade CPU, mobo + RAM, and get the others as you go along rather than in 1 go

ive upgraded my pc in sig as much as i can, the only other step is to overclock and im not as im rubbish totally clueless
 
I would honestly hold out on the SSD. For a few reasons.

1. Next generation of SSD is coming out Feb (price drops on older models)
2. 25nm chips vs 32nm chips = 50% cheaper (as you get twice as much on the 25nm than on a 35nm chip) so you get more space for the same price.
3. It will only improve responsiveness of your operating system and loading of games...it wont effect gameplay frames which are more important.
4. You can put more into your current system and make a better one that will last longer.

While I love the speed boost of a SSD I wouldn't allow it to effect my over-all build just for a faster load up for a game. I prefer frames over loading speed but that is just me.

Well depends...is this system for gaming only or something else? What monitor resolution do you game on and the size of your monitor...do you dual monitor or more? If your buying a GPU along with the other items you linked and are gaming then what model of graphics card is it?
If your still using the 4850 and game on a 1680x1050 or higher resolution with a 21''+ monitor then putting that money towards a 6850 (DX11 for Windows 7 users) for example would benefit you more than a SSD would on the gaming front. If you do a lot of photoshop/things that a better SSD would help with then that would be a better option.

If you really want a SSD though go buy it and don't let me negate you. However if your looking for gaming performance more then that would be something you might want to decide for yourself.

yeah but my 4850 is still good isnt it, only problem is cpu bottlenecking it, as i can tell the graphics in black ops nfs hotpersuit are perfect and crisp and smooth its just the game play aka my cpu jerky etc
 
Intel newer CPUs (Sandy-bridge) are going to be out in early January. So, I suggest that you wait for those before you upgrade

Is it going to be quad core or hex

Initially they are going to release dual and quads only.

However, the quad core version will be faster than any of the current quads, and it also faster than AMD 6 cores.

Thanks dude for that, i might aswell wait as i havnt got enough money anway as my stupid car ins is due and thats £400, lol
 
mmm ok so the new sandy bridge will be quad core and it will most def be better than any other quad and the amd x6 but if i get over the x6 what proc will be more future proof

The current i7 like 870 and 950 are already as good as AMD X6 in multi-threaded application, and faster in single threaded applications.

So, even in application that use all the six cores in AMD X6 it will probably be slower than sandy-bridge. And in applications that use 4 or less cores, the difference should be even much bigger (which is a good thing for gaming)

Anyway, sandy-bridge are going to be released in January 9 2011. So, you only need to wait for about 1 month to see official review.

If an application can use 6 cores or more, that doesn't mean that it won't run on quad or dual cores. The extra cores will be used for extra performance.

i7 870 or 950 have faster core for core performance, and support Hyper-threading. Both of those could easily make up for the extra cores that AMD X6 have. On the other hand, Sandy-bridge should have even better performance core for core than any of the current processors.

Not necessarily, it just wouldn't run it as fast as the 6-core CPU. To paraphrase an overused (simplified) analogy, it's like having a 6 conveyor belts (the threads) at a factory with 2 people (the cores) working on them. The higher the frequency the faster the people move. Obviously with 6 cores it will be more efficient.:good:
 
so if i buy the x6 it will last a long time as its future proof, instead of the quad i7's

i know the i7's will be faster but in 5 years time the x6 i wont need to upgrade where as the quad i will
