1. go buy a new copy of windows.
2. format your harddrive
3. put in the cd and go to bios and have it boot from the cd drive.
4. follow the instructions to install windows

if you dont see the difference then you shouldnt have pro :P

The only difference between home and pro is that Pro allows you to connect to a domain while Home only allows simple home networking. Pro also supports IIS which is internet information services. IIS includes services for web and FTP servers and other such stuff that 90% of XP Pro users will never understand.

More than just IIS and domains.

He said that because its what someone else told him in this therad. lol

It also has several more tools built in, such as ntbackup.

I do know the other differences ass. Those 2 are the major ones he ever has a chance of noticing or even coming close to needing.

Those aren't even that major. Dynamic disk support, Remote administration, and multi-processor support would be higher up on that list as major additions than IIS and Domain services.

As for a normal user not using them it doesn't really matter seeing as how the difference is only ~40$ between the 2 you could pick whatever you want and be happy. Better to have and not use than to not have an be in need.

you got me on dynamic disk support and MAYBE remote admin, but multi core support? I would think if he needed multi-core support he wouldn't be asking which version of windows he needed

Multi-core != Multi-processor.
