Okay i'm getting some private help, but i want to know everyones opinion... what is better, upgrading a old computer or building a new budget one... the old comptuer is old...LOL, but the upgrade will bring it from 1.8ghz to 2.0-2.2ghz.. not much, but only forty dollars upgrade... i rather build a new one, but i only make 130 /week and i only want a Mobo/ CPU/ PSU/ RAM and nothing else... i mean make this the BEST BANG for the CHEAP BUCK... any help? Thank Your... This is very important because iwant to build this during the summer, or at least finish it during the summer... i have DVD Burner already, I have a Couple of Fans like 2 1(120mm) and (88mm), any help, Pleas make this a good cheap one because i will eventually upgrade more parts, but i want this to play COD and Splinter cell, and Ghost Recon over the summer.... TY
 
Consider a Barebones system. You can usually find a case/RAM/MoBo/CPU for about $200. Toss in a HDD some fans, a HSF and OS and you're set. Or, since you mentioned you have a case, you can find a MoBo/CPU combo for less than the equivalent separately-purchased units. TigerDirect has far more MoBo/CPU (and barebones too for that matter) than Newegg. Browse through and see if anything catches your eye.
 
Some are, some aren't. Hence my advice to browse and see what you find rather than posting random links.

As for the TD one, it's a nice price, however... The case itself looks flimsy, not to mention hella-ugly IMO. After you add on an Optical Drive, CPU fan, and OS, the deal that it is is somewhat lessened; not completely mind you, it just puts it above some better-equipped BB systems price-wise.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Dell ANNR linked to, either. The biggest reason Dell has a bad rap is because it's the cool, hip thing to do, as dictated mostly by folks who haven't a clue. Don't be a 'I hate Dell because everyone else hates Dell' lemming. If given the choice between anything already listed in this Thread, I'd take that one in a heartbeat. The price vs. performance ratio on that system will be *extremely* hard to beat. Just for comparison sake, I started to build a system with those specs via Newegg. After the CPU, OS Monitor, and RAM, I was at $370, not including shipping. That didn't include Case, Optical Drive, HDD, MoBo, case fans, or HSF.

Edit: A very close Newegg version of that Dell system would run me $598 shipped to my door, and that's using a few items with instant-off or MIRs.

Fritzjavel That dell system is a good deal. If it where up to me I will pick it up in a heart beat.

Building your own PC is fun and exciting, at least that's how it was for me the first time. But building your own pc is not without its own headaches.


Fritzjavel if your a first time builder, save your self some headaches, I would go with the deal.
 
Couldn't agree more imsati. That Dell deal is a great deal! (seeing as it doesn't come in DOA, damaged, blow up, or cause a fire) *ahem*

Okay so here the update, i told my mom about the dell deal, and she said it was nice, and all, but she doesn't want to finance the cost because i havn't made that much yet from my job, (i'm 16), so i'm stuck with those expensive retailers like compusa, best buy, circuitcity, and brandsmart (all i know off), and little computer shops w/ better deals at the Flea Market, so i'm checking CompUsa out... MAN THIS SUCKS!!!..
 
^^ I dont recommend Dell anyway. You will have problems for the rest of your life. LMAO Go for a decent HP, Acer, or Gateway. My mom's bf just got a bad a$$ Acer for $55o at best buy. It has a 19" monitor, Intel E2160 @1.8ghz, 3gb ram, and a printer.
