Im getting a new pc this week, how about these monitors?

I was looking at getting a pc "a local guy is selling his gaming pc" I dont know much about pc's to be up front so maybe someone could tell me what monitor would be best for me.
The grfx card it uses is a Radeon HD 5770 and it also has a blue ray player "although I doubt I would watch movies on my pc ever" But I do plan on playing game's and just using it for your normal everyday web surfing, ebaying ,youtube forums etc. That is about the extent of my pc usage.

I only went to best buy last night,I'll check more places today but this one seemed ok for the price,it was on sale for $150.00 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...itor/2363503.p?id=1218323019033&skuId=2363503

I'll be going to microcenter later today to see what they have on hand on sale.
I see this one seems to be a croud favorite based on the review numbers.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049
Right now with no tax and free shipping this is only like $35-$40 more then the samsung at best buy I linked above,is this worth the extra time and waiting for shipping?
Im going to go to micro center tonight to see what they got,but let me know what you think,I would like to stay under $200, Thanks!

I would go with the Asus monitor, the speakers might suck but who uses the monitor speakers anyway. I've got a 27" Asus and love it.

Acer, Asus, Dell, and samsung are the best brands.

That Asus monitor you linked to is great, you will not be disappointed.

Well, it's .4'' smaller and $10 more. Dynamic contrast ratio doesn't mean a whole lot. The newegg one has promo $20 off until the 27th so it's only $180 free shipping. Plus if you buy locally there will be tax. What state are you in?

I mean, if you want a monitor ASAP, the one at MC is still a great monitor.

Yes that does seem like a better deal,I'll take a look at both to see what looks better. The asus was 2ms at the acer was 5ms would you notice a difference?

Not really as the 2ms figure is GTG (grey to grey) not the actual response time which is typically also 5ms black to black for 99% of monitors that are 2ms gtg.

It's really just a gimmick, there will be no difference.

Stay away from Acer, there junk. LG make nice monitors to. What are the specs of the PC your getting and how much is he asking?

Acer is not junk. Bet I have bought 200 of them and have only had 2 die. They are really a good lower cost monitor. But Samsung/Asus and LG are good monitors.

I exclusively use Acer lol. One of the best IMO.

If you only had 1 die on you, and you say the whole company is crap over it, thats not credible. What are your experiences with acer?

I agree with that. Alot of people rag out Acer monitors. IMO they are one of the best you can get for the price/features. I've had better luck with Acers monitors then any other brand.

I ended up getting the asus, the acer didn't
Look bad at all but the asus just looked more sharp and vivid.
It looks really nice, although I think I got it too big. I got the 24" and have it as far away from me on my desk as it can go and it feels like my eyes are bleeding!
I hope I'm just not use to it since my old monitor was so dark. Ill fiddle with the settings tomorrow to see if I can dull it down some.

So what's better to use hdmi or dvi?
Right now I'm just using the dvi cord it came with and have my desk top speakers running. If I use hdmi could I still use my desk top speakers and just turn the monitor speakers all the way down, or will it conflict with anything?

DVI is best IMO, less issues.

Give it time to get used to it, going straight to a 24'' is very hard. Even for me going from a 19'' CRT to a 21.5'' 1080p LCD was very hard and took a few weeks to get used to it. Now I have a 23'' and would never go back.

Yeah Acer is not junk. I have 3 in my house alone and usually buy Acer for all my clients. Never an issue with them yet.

Both my Dad and I had one crap out on us, mine just out of warranty his died just before. Plus I don't really like the picture quality but that's just my opinion. Also my first laptop was an Acer and the build quality wasn't the greatest, I think it was a Travel Mate. I'm not saying every product from them is crap, I guess I just didn't get any of the good products from them. To the OP, just go to a store and compare what looks good to you for the price, everyone's eyes are different, I wouldn't order one online without seeing it first.

I don't remember, it was about 5 years ago. We both had the same model, I bought one for myself and one for my Dad.
