I'm getting a SATA hard drive, any suggestions?

I'm looking for one that's cheap, good and over 200 GB, by cheap I mean under $120. So does anyone have any suggestions?

BTW, I know this is off the topic, but I confused my comp apps teacher :D. lol He was making us do this project where we told him what we did over the summer, I told him about my computer and the compontents I used, he was completely lost.
 
Most computer teachers don't know squat about computers. I know they didn't back when I was in high school, and none of the ones at college know more than software. And I mean programming...they know nothing about windows or anything, most of the time!

As for your drive, I'd probably just go for whatever's cheap and has decent reviews on newegg. Personally, I suggest Western Digital drives. I can give horror stories about Seagate and Maxtor drives, but as soon as I put one of them down, someone else will pop up with stories about Western Digital...
 
Well, you can take the word of someone who has had MAYBE half a dozen WD drives, or you can take the word of someone who has sold and serviced several hundred of them... Take my word for it, they're crap.

I recommend the Seagate or preferably the Samsung... The Samsung is definitely the better value for the dollar.

EDIT: I should clarify something. Caviar SEs are reasonable for light duty home use only. Anything more than that, forget it. If you want performance get the Caviar RE or the Raptor.. Or skip WD entirely.

Just speak for yourself, You dont have any idea how many drives I have had! I have installed and used 100s of drives

How many of them WD? And how many of them in mission critical applications? I've sold and serviced 100's of WD alone. Never mind the 100's and 100's more Maxtor, Fujitsu, Seagate, Samsung, Connor, IBM and Hitachi.

I dont really care. My statement was, You dont have any idea how many drives I have had! I have installed and used 100s of drives, about 90% were W/D and Seagate, got tired of putting Mators and Hitachis in the trash can.

Can I ask you something? How old are you? Because I smell BS. You're a landscaper... To use that many drives you would have to be about 65 years old unless you were in the trade, and I'm betting you're not more than 23. I think you're exaggeragating JUST a tad.

So. Considering my experience with I dunno, let's say 1000 drives just for arguments sake.. You would have RMAed a significant number of WDs as well, even if my numbers are out in left field somewhere.

All I can say is that I think you're full of it. No offence intended.

47, building computers since about 95, I guess you could say part owner in a local computer store, buddy wanted to start one but didnt have the money, made a little loan, Ha. Still end up building most of his computers after work.

Oh he pays me, plus I get 5% of his overhead till I am paid back, I have let him slide the last few months:rolleyes: Yea he sticks me with the new builds and he does the repair jobs, but newbuilds are funner, nothing cooler than that first boot!

im not a large drive salesmen or repairmen but so far my WD experience has been great for my computer i havent gone for the best quality just a drive thatll serve me and this WD has been reliable ive used seagate and maxtor too and id have to say seagates are also good but i find maxtors to be difficult and buggy

Definitely the Samsung is better. Hands down. They have price and performance on their side. In benchmarks they wipe themselves with WD.

5%? Dude.. Umm.. You're kinder than I would be. lol. :D I wouldn't let him slide either. Unless you're making more money laying sod, I would be taking the store. Obviously you are doing the lion's share of the work.

I agree about the new builds. That's my favorite part of the business (unless I am forced to use MSI mainboards. BLECH. PUKE. Or Abit for that matter.. Pain in the ass.. lol :D)
 
I like building computers, now that I've figured out how to do it, it was a pain when I built my first a few weeks ago, but next time it'll be a lot easier. I would be more like Kenin, there'd be no way I'd settle for %5 unless you're getting a lot of buisness. How much do you get paid? That would be a big issue for me to, unless it was over 50% that is, since you are doing most of the work.

EDIT: okay, I'll probobly get the Samsung once I sell some stuff on ebay, than depending on how much I have left I'll either get the ram here or save the rest for what I'm getting around christmas (either a Creative Zen Vision:M, PS3, or laptop depending on how much I have and what I want to get when I have the money)

Yea we see eye to eye about MSI boards, (Years Ago) My favorite was Soyo and Tyan. Think Soyo made the first DDR board, Abit is (ok) there kinda funky with a lot of brands of ram. Didnt used to like Gigabyte but have had good luck with there newer boards, DFI is a good board but over priced for what you get!

I get paid for all the new builds I do, plus 5% of his over head, Known him along time so I am giving him a break till he gets it going, hes had it alittle over 6 months now and doing pretty good, better than expected:eek:
