Im having trouble connecting the front USB and firewire cables to MOBO.

I Just purchaced the ULTRA Wizard ATX Mid-Tower PC case and im having trouble connecting the cables for the front USB 2.0 and firewire to the MOBO.

This is what my MOBO looks like

This is my first time building a PC, so this may seem very noobish... but im sorry.

There seems to be a purple strip which has lots of pins sticking out so I just stuck them in there. No idea if this is right though...
 
the only purple strip I can see on the images is the RAM slots. obviously they dont go in there and they wouldnt fit in there. Can you circle an image using paint and link to it to show me exactly where you have put them?

i had 2 USB slots with my case that attached to the top of the case, and on to the motherboard.

they had lots (about 6/8) single pins that needed plugging in to the motherboard. I told myself i would do it some other time, but never bothered doing it.

It looks fairly complicated. how do you know which pin goes where? and in what order?

The motherboard manual should show you the pins and what each one requires. I know the manual for my Asus board does.
