Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have a bit of a problem...I received a new computer for graduation but I wasn't given the password for Microsoft XP so I can't do anything, I called the guy who installed everything for it but now he's saying that he'll charge me to look at it, not to mention I'm in Georgia and he's in Florida:mad: , is there anything I can do myself without having to go to a computer shop? Please, is there anyone that can help me?

u mean it is asking for u to activate it? if so follow the activation wizard, you can activate over the internet or via the phone(takes forever)

EDIT: The comp should have a COA for the windows installation, its a small-ish rectangler sticker with a product key on it, if you don't have that then the XP install is prolly not legit.

It's asking for me to enter the password, and I don't have one so I can't do anything b/c i can't get past that!

is it like the user? like you cant go in b/c it telling you to sign in?
or is it like once you turn on the comp it tells you to put in a password?
if its the user thing then you cn just reinstall windows by reformating.

yes, it's the user password! but I wasn't given any software with the computer just the computer, so could i reformat?

If its not the product key. Then just reinstall windows...If its the product key its on the microsoft windows xp pro, home, office sticker

no your going to need the cd. so youd need to buy windows XP. or get a friends XP cd and use the serial number that should be on the computer.

is their a guest user option that doesnt need a password or just that one user you cant get into?

if you were not given the windows cd, then chances are, it's a bootleg copy (he used his windows cd and product key and just installed it on yours)
which is bad news because you can get in trouble for it. not to mention if you do automatic updates, it'll try to verify your copy of windows and then it'll make it to were you can't boot the system anyways

best advice, go buy a copy of windows and then format and reload with a copy you know is legit

one more thing, if you do believe this is a legitimate copy of windows, you could try logging onto the admin user in safe mode (f8 while booting up and then pick safe mode)

granted that the guy did not put an admin password on there, you could log in there and create a new username to use
