ive tried everything tweakin, full system scans with avg 7.1, system restore but my wireless connection still reads 54mbps and im paying for 8mb, im currently using a bt home hub with an excellent wireless connection so what could possibly be goin wrong please if someone has any suggestions i would be really gratefull.

Most modems only have 10Mb/s networking cards in them. Same goes for most routers(the WAN port) Besides, I don't understand your problem. You're connection is 8Mb/s, but your NIC is showing 54Mb/s... Besides the fact the 54Mb/s is on your local network, it's obviously faster than 8Mb/s...

Why not try some internet speed tester. They can be found online quite easilly. See what it says. However, the problem has nothing to do with your computer running at 54Mbps.

i dont have it through a hub. so that maybe the problem also sometimes slow is pretty normal with cable internet especially during peak hours.

Also, just because you're paying for fast internet doesn't mean you're going to get it. Line faults, the number of other clients around you(more of a problem with cable than DSL...) and other such things could cause very slow internet.

Of course, problems of your computer as well :P

Im assuming you're with BT yes? If thats the case, you're paying for UPTO 8mb, not a straight 8mb connection.. most places won't get 8mb because of a) the distance from the telephone exchange, and b) because BT still have to upgrade alot fo the telephone exchanges..... which is why i prefer Cable over ADSL, The fact you can get 5mb is pretty good. round my way, the max i can get from adsl is 2mb

If you passed 1st grade, you would know that 54mbps is faster then 8mbps.

The problem is most likely spyware or ISP related.
