I'm planning on building a desktop...

The 5770 isnt much more than a 5750, and id say its semi-worth it. However, a 4890 performs better but isnt directX11, take your pick, dx11 or performance:

965 black edition isnt worth the cost and wont overclock any better than a 945. Second, if you are overclocking it doesnt mean much how much airflow your case has, you need an aftermarket cooler.

BTW, Stoic Sentinal, the 940 will NOT work in an am3 board. The 940 is AM2+, not AM3.

You're sure it wouldn't be worth spending $30.00 more for .4ghz more performance on each core? It is Newegg's featured CPU of the day, and I am getting 10% off that even.
 
Would the 4870 and a 965 be a good combination, considering both of them cost as much as their lower end models due to the 10% off today?

So now I need to decide on a mobo and a networking card. What would you guys suggest? Anything I'd want or am missing?
 
What motherboard would you suggest as well with the setup I have up there? I'd want good sound quality... Not sure how that works now, as I haven't built a computer for 7-8 years.

4870 isnt any better than 5770, relatively speaking they are identical in performance.
 
I guess this is going to be my end system right here. Will everything work well together, will I have everything I need to get the system running? (Other than a keyboard and a mouse?) This should be a decently powerful computer, correct?
