I'm stuck please give me some advice

With my old asus videocard i got some bundle games. One of them was Battle engine aquila, whiich i liked much i dunno why. Anyway, now some french files give me an error on installing and the installer cant skip them because it's so old! On XP it worked copying the files from the cd in a folder and then installing the game... but on vista it gives me an error... Something about invalid ms-dos function when it's copying the archive with all game files.
So now i could only:
1.recover the files from cd (need assistance)
or
2.download the game(is it legal if im in this situacion???)

why not try copying the program folder with the actual game files over from a machine that has it already installed?

lol oh i was under the impression that you still had the XP machine..

Yeah I knew about the demo...
It's funny I've got all the files i need to build the full in an archive on a cd and the archive will not work because of some french files i dont need....
