Improper speed

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2200 on a asus a7v8x-x and I had it at 1800mhz, 133/33 frequency but suddenly when I would reset the computer it would hang. I would go to bios and it would say there is an improper frequency. So I had to set it to 1350mhz, 100/33 in order for the computer to boot up.

I went ahead and bought a new thermaltake heatsink to replace the original. It still gives the same problem.

Any other tips would be appreciated.
 
I just put the new heatsink in but did not add any more thermal grease if thats what you mean.

That would be a problem. Gotta clean off the old stuff and pop the new stuff on :) (otherwise you get heat problems)
 
Went ahead and wipe the old stuff from the cpu and add it some new grease.

I still get the same problem.

Any more tips would be appreciated it.
 
Hmmm is there a multiplier option? (usually right below where you select 133/33) ... if so, youll need to change that to 13.5

If that doesnt work, try completely resetting the BIOS, when it loads up, start from scratch (just in case theres some conflicting setting of some sort)
 
Here is my original setting
cpu speed 1800 mhz
mult. 13.5
external freq. 133/33
memory freq. auto

I went ahead and reset the bios but no luck
 
Yes but what is the memory rated to work at? (what im getting as is a possibility that somehow the memory is set to run 1:1 with the CPU but the memory isnt capable of running those speeds hence your problems)
 
I've had the computer about six months and it was working fine on the original setting. All of a sudden it just stop working.
