I want to improve my computers performance.
In anyway possible.
I don't play PC Games.
I listen to tons of music, I have 54.51 GB of it on my extra hard drive.
It is the old family PC never been reformatted so it has some extra hidden stuff probably on it.It runs decent but I think it can go faster.

My Computer:

Compaq

AMD Athlon(tm) Processor

798 MHz

512 MB of RAM

System:

Microsoft Windows XP

Home Edition

Version 2002

Service Pack 2

I have a 23.1 GB Local Diskwith 11.6 GB Free Space
My Extra Disk has 114 GB Capacity with 31.GB Free Space

Thanks both of you
I've done all of that already though all except reformat
i will reformat as soon as i can find the time to save and write down crap i was just seeing if i could do anything in the meantime

If reformatting is not a big deal for you, then thats the way to go. If you dont want to reformat then we could prob help you clean out your pc. You also might be infected which is why your pc is slow.

what type of graphics adapter do you have? If it is integrated in the motherboard, what kind of slots are available? a $20.00 agp card, could be a cost effective upgrade, over integrated graphics.

Here is a nice way to free up some extra space. This differs from Disk clean up!!

Go to:
My Computer
Right click the C: drive
Select Properties
Select Disk Cleanup
Click the More Options tab
Click the clean up old restore points (or something similar to that) should be at bottom
***make sure you have a current restore point set***
This can free up anywhere from 10gb-30gb depending on how long since the last time you have done it.

I usually get about 10gb+
