Improvement over GeForce 4 MX440?

fx5200 is not a good video card and it is not much better than mx440, i have fx5200 in my old computer it could run sims 2 with good FPS at 1024X768 with medium details.
sims 2 doesn't need high end video card, but sims 2 takes alot of system memory, so u must have 512MB or even 1GB of ram to run this game smootly.

if u want to play games like doom 3 i don't roccemend that u buy fx 5200 because it will run at 640x480 with low details, and half life 2 will run 800x600 with low details, and many other new games will run like that.

if u want cheap and good card get radeon 9600pro, or geforce 6600 or 6200.
anyway fx5200 could run most games that are before 2004 (games that are released in 2003 and before) and some of the games that released in 2004 will run smootly with good graphics by fx5200.

and sorry for my bad langauge

Thats a horrible card with crippled 64Bit memory.

Not knowing full system specs here but spend some more money and get your wife a 9600Pro minimum.

As for the question, no you won't notice much improvement over the 440.

yeah it is horrible card with 64Bit memory , but as i said this card could run sims 2 at 1024x768 with medium details, and it could run smootly most of the old games at 1024x768 or 800x600 with high or medium details, like for example it runs call of duty at 1024X768 with high details and need for speed underground at 800x600 with highest details (while for underground2 it will run at 640X480 with medium details) so if u want to play old games ( before 2004) this card is the right choice.
and u can get if u want 9600Pro, it is much better than fx5200 and it is not expensive

you will deffinetly need more ram, try buying a 512MB stick, and i would try to go for the FX5500 or ATI 9550.

The board is AGP 2x/4x

So Sims 2 needs 768mb or RAM huh? I was hoping 512 would do it.
I know it's not a "lot" of money, but it's more than I wanted to spend right now. I get a spiffy Christmas bonus so maybe I'll wait until then.

At this point in time is the RAM gonna help the choppiness in SIMS 2 more than a new video card?

u don't need to drop the graphics quality because sims 2 will automatically choose the best graphics for video card, it will choose 1024x768 with mediums for fx5200, for ur MX440 i don't know, but as the above said, u need to add more ram if u want to play the game smoothly

the fx5200 is a improvement over a MX440.
because its a 'newer' directX level card :)

i played HL2 on a mx440, untill the fan broke down and it was fried.
as a replacement, i bought a (MSI) fx5200. and when i played HL2 with that card, i was somehow stunned by the look of the grafics.

ok.. i wouldnt want to go back to that card, because i have a better system now. bot you do notice a difference. but you might want to upgrade to at least 512Mb RAM. it really makes the loading a lot shorter :) and games have a higher fps due to it.

yea actually i like the look of the fx5200 more than the mx 440. however, it still is a crappy card. however, the fx5500 is NOT the way to go. it has 2 pixel pipelines and a single vertex shader. id go with a 9600

or if you really want to spend the least possible the 9550 is $15 less
