Improving my computer skills

I'm trying to improve on my computer skills. I was hoping that I can get some advice on how other people gained and improved there computer skills. I feel like I do know enough about computers yet, and the areas I'm having trouble in is computer hardware, like knowing and understanding how fast my processor is and learning more about motherboards and video cards and how to upgrade and improve them. I know a good deal about hard divers, OS's, programs, and software. This is one of the reasons I joined this forum, to gain more knowledge about computers and to improve on my computer skills. So if can help me out I would greatly appreciate it :D.

well, if i could tell you what to do to gain experience then i would but i don't know.
I learned hardware by myself and + i was doing it everyday.
It's just a matter of knowing which is compatible with this or that, which mobo supports which cpu ..stuff like that.

Most of everything I learned is from this forum. Even if you are not going to post in a thread, you should read it anyway. You can learn a lot just from reading new threads.

I learned by just messing around with my computer. I would break stuff, then hafta figure out how to fix it. I had an extra computer to play with so I'd change things and see what happens. As far as hardware goes, yeah... read the new threads, and even old. Check out the Mobo section of the forum, see what people have to say.

Yeah, definitely hands on is best. Theory and reading can only get you so far. My best lesson was when I learned to not be afraid mucking things up (within reason, of course) and started playing around, experimenting. Ideally you want a cheaper machine to do this on at first. And remember that most things you mess up can be fixed, and that is the point of doing it anyway, right? You will learn what not to do, as much as what to do.

Good luck.

Most things i know about computers i have learnt from this place and you can learn alot about computers/computer building from youtube because people are always uploading vids of them building and upgrading computers in detail which is great if you want to learn how to build one.

im planning on building my next rig myself and i know that if i have any problems i can turn to this place for help:)

Start reading every thread possible :D I built my first computer at the age of 10. Took apart and leaned how a CPU worked and figured out how to put an video card in/out at the age of 9 1/2.
