It seems to be growing a lot I've seen it in rainbow six, 2142 and the new BF2 map just wondering what the general opinion on it here was. Do you think it's good for gaming, or the the companies are just selling out?

Personally I think these ads ruin the atmosphere of the game. Nothing like getting into the adrenaline of clearing a room of terrorists after using a flash and saving all the hostages only to turn around and see a big sign for Intel Core 2 Duo. That really makes it realistic...

If the adds are plausable, like a Coca-cola billboard in GTA IV say, then I have no problem with it. If it's ridiculously misplaced to the extent that it affects my gameplay, like a post-apocalyptic shooter with adverts for Chanell No.5, then I would be very annoyed.
As for the example you used, was it a public place like a casino or shopping mall? Because if that is the case then I see that as highly realistic. I see adverts for Core 2 Duo all the time.

Yeah I agree with him ^. As long as they are not out of place I think it's fine. Like in NFS: underground there were boards with ads, which I think is fine

In another sense though they were not realistic because they didn't look natural they stuck out like a sore thumb and they didn't get destroyed like other fake ads in the game things like that made it obvious that they didn't belong there. Though I agree with you I didn't mind the ads in Need for Speed because they were well integrated but if they stick out I don't enjoy them.

I agree, if it's tasteful and is in-keeping it's fine. Take Gran Turismo, it's full of advertising yet you see it all the time on the TV so it works.

I don't mind the ads at all unless they start poping up at me like in browsers then we have a problem, I also think taht they can be a good thing take quake wars they use ads but they say that they were able to gain funds in order to make the game better which is always a good thing

On the new BF2 map, Highway Tampa, there are Intel logos on almost all of the crates. They have a couple billboards that say "Intel Core 2 Extreme, More frag less lag"

Yeah, the Battlefield ads are annoying. Especially the billboards in 2142. What does every elite soldier fighting on a futuristic frozen battlefield desire? Why Axe shower gel ofcourse! What's weird is that the ads are meant to be region specific, yet here in the UK, Axe shower gel is called Lynx (???)
