I don't think of it as a folder. Think of it as a filter...

You have a FILTER which is all mail.
You can apply FILTERS to make mail look like they are in a folder...

For example all mail to [email protected] can be filtered to a "folder". BUt it also remains in the All mail...

oh yes and when u archive a file, where do u go to see the archived files????

All Mail, it also shows conversations from google talk in there.
