ok so i have ordered most of my build all i have left to get is windows 7 and a motherboard+gpu...so i am asking what motherboard and gpu do you think i should get to max out starcraft which i know isnt the most gpu intensive computer game... i am running phenom 955 i think thats important too.

and also if you have time post a pair(mobo+gpu) that is sufficient to play the game and is good quality for price...like whats a good budget pair?

i am asking both questions because i am deciding if i want to spend alot to make it nice or just get what i need for a "decent" setup

Well I am maxing it out now on a 6950 and on the 4850 that I upgraded from. How much are you looking to spend on the both?

well i was just looking to see how little i could spend and still max but i have like 400 ish for them and i mean thats pretty flexible just was seeing what kind of answers id get without a target budget

My understanding is Starcraft 2 is much more dependent on your CPU, in fact its very much dependent on that.

so is that what you feel would be the cheapest way to max or the best??? i was looking at 990fx board and saphire 6950 2 gig but thats like more expensive and stilll an option but i am basically wondering if i can max with like $320 if not i just gonna go bigger

Your CPU will mean that you wont max it out no matter what GPU you have mate. Do some research, Starcraft 2 smashes CPUs. You need a better CPU if you want to gain full use of that GPU. http://www.techspot.com/review/305-starcraft2-performance/page13.html You will be looking at just playable framerates with the 965 (similar to the 955) at Ultra settings at 1920 x 1080. You are better off putting your money on a better CPU and motherboard.

SC2 only uses 2 cores, so getting a quad core AMD chip is not a good choice if your main aim is to play max settings on that game. You should get a 2500K, as this will be a much better performer.

that post seemed kind of aggressive? guess cant ask questions here and be treated in a respectful manor? but thanks for the information

Im sorry I didnt mean to be agressive, (and i cant see where i was), however i was just trying to save you from expecting max settings playable frame rates with that CPU. You were discussing spending more money on that too (for no effect). Text is sometimes awkward with these things so relax mate. If you already have that CPU then cool, however if you are still deciding, I would suggest (based on pretty much everything i have read) that you need a clock for clock performance on 2 cores, which leaves you in the intel space. If you can wait a few weeks, i would see what Bulldozer provides you as that may be the best choice.

Not that I am disputing the 2500k as a better choice but the 955/965 still work great. I am getting way better performance than what is stated in that review. Even in a 4v4 I still have no lag what so ever. That is on ultra at 1080.

EDIT: if it is in your budget I would also recommend the 2500K

its cool and unfortunately i purchased my processor yesturday :(.so can i ask what would i get to best compliment my cpu not worrying about maxing i am more interested in that game for the competitive side anyway but woulda been nice lol

Ok thats fine, check out if you can exchange it. Don't stress though, the game will run, but you initially indicated that you wanted to run max settings.

If you want a great mobo for that CPU to oc it (which you will probably want to do), then get the Asus Sabertooth 990FX imo.

yea i did but i was unaware of the facts i am new to this. but i ordered from newegg so i dont think ican do that.and any opinions on a gpu that i wont bottleneck?.

From Newegg:

There is a restocking fee of 15% on all returns for refund (RMA Refund), unless waived by a Customer Support Agent. We charge this 15% restocking fee for all returns for refund to encourage customers to purchase products they intend to keep. We offer RMA Replacement without any restocking fee to support customers who have received a defective product. For CPU and Memory refunds, any restocking fee we use will be a reflection on current market value for the same cpu item. Newegg.com does not support attempts to profit from CPU and Memory price fluctuations.

EDIT: the board that you posted looks like a good one if you are going to stick with the 955
