Inconsistant wifi connection

Just in the last week I have been having big time troubles keeping a signal to my laptop. I either can't connect or I am connected with limited(no)access. When I look for available connections sometimes mine shows up, sometimes it doesn't. My router seems not to be the problem. other devices are working ok. I have scanned for viruses with nothing turning up. Hoping some one can help.

You could try changing the WIFI channel. If this is 802.11g/n try channels 1, 7 or 11. Are you far away from the router?
Perhaps a hacker is sending deauth packets? LOL J/K.

Download the WIFI driver. Then uninstall the current WIFI driver and install the new one.

Which laptop and which router? I assume your IP shows up as an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) when you connect to that SSID, do you get the same behavior for other access points too when using that laptop?

try channels 1, 7 6 or 11
Fixed ;)

Might want to go into the network and sharing center and on left hand side click on manage wireless networks and select your network and delete it and then set it back up again, making sure you enter the correct security key. This usually works.

Are you using your laptop in the same place where it used to work? Did you move your wireless router before you started having these problems?

Yes Johnb35 has a very good point. Delete all other networks including your own and reconnect. Might as well check device manager and make sure your NIC isn't giving any problems.

Hi John, I tried disabling and enabling as well as deleting and downloading and installing network adapter. I know the problem is on the computer side...router signal is uninterupted on other devices. At times(for a few days),everything was fine. Now it's back to either not being able to connect to a signal that I can see on the computer that is excellent or it doesn't see my router, or it reports the signal as poor(which it is not). Other times it connects but has limited or no internet access.

Whats the name of the wireless card you have? Look in device manager under network adapters.

What operating system are you using? That wireless card isn't supported by windows 8 or higher. I would just suggest getting a usb wireless adapter.

Here is the latest driver for that card.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/23491/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-7-?httpDown=https://downloadmirror.intel.com/23491/eng/Wireless_16.7.0_Ds64.exe

It could just be the wireless card is dying. I had the same card in my dell laptop and couldn't get signal unless I was really close to the router.
That was the same one I had in there. I had downloaded it a couple weeks ago...I got rid of it and downloaded it again just now, still same problem

Does installation of your linked download require a restart? If so computer is not letting me install file I downloaded and is reinstalling Intel 5100 AGN

Usually any driver install requires a restart. Are you running 64 bit or 32bit windows 7? I gave you the link for 64 bit. I would still just get a usb wireless adapter and use it since the adapter is sort of outdated.

64 bit. Thank you for your patience and help...looks like usb wireless is the route!
