Inconsistent Internet

My internet keeps dropping, forcing me to reset my modem and router. This has continually happened since I built my computer two days ago. Is this a driver issue or is it a coincidence and cable just sucks really bad? Thanks for any help. Maybe the problem is something else entirely?

As for my Asus crosshair IV formula motherboard drivers are concerned, I installed them from the cd I received with my purchase.

Most likely it's an issue with your ISP. Give them a call and see what they have to say about it.

I would think the coincidence is too great also! If you log into your router's status and occasionally refresh, is it dropping there or are you judging by your apps dropping? If the router and modem are otherwise unchanged I would start at the NIC card, look at settings and work back.

No harm in checking with your ISP as already suggested.

Sounds like an interferance issue, you tried changing the wireless channel of your router?

I agree. Microwaves, cordless telephones, console controllers, etc., can cause it.

Modem loses internet during downloads, web browsing and gaming online.

So I am taking it that downloads are interrupted.

I was going to get you to change your DNS servers if pages weren't being resolved. But, since that's not exactly the case, you should gripe at the ISP. What model of modem do you have? Did you get it from your ISP?

Not trying to hijack your thread but I'm having a similar issue. My speed drops drastically to the point where it loses the connection for about a minute. I got off the phone with my ISP and everything was fine on there end, he connected to my computer and ran command prompt and typed in netstat to see the status. He was shocked because there were way to many connections going on then normal. I'm still trying to figure out why, I've ran every scanner and no Malware or anything like that and the only p2p software I have is steam. How many connections come up when you type that in? I'm a little concerned, thinking about re-installing windows.

That assumes Manakore is using wireless...it was not specified. If it is wireless, it could simply be a poorer NIC card than previoius - it's a new computer. If it's wired then the MB drivers should be OK.

I don't use Steam but P2P could be dozens or hundreds of connections. Run Netstat with nothing running then try your Steam and see what is running. Don't rush to re-install Windows any time something goes wrong.

I have changed ports and it still does it occasionally. I am wired and my modem is a Motorola sb5100 SURFboard.

Hmm, there are a lot less connections going when steam is open, but a ton when nothing is running.

I have Charter High Speed at my house. For a long time I would lose my connection (TV and internet) for HOURS! They always thought it was in the house, but they never found a problem. FINALLY we convinced them to check the pole outside the house. Turns out a squirrel had chewed on the lines and broken the connection. It was then replaced. No issues for the last few years.

So it's just a modem, no router? Connected via USB or Ethernet? I assume if it's USB it's impossible to install the wrong drivers for you OS. Ethernet drivers I already commented on.

It's cable - is anything else going over the same cable, TV or phone? If any, then do they work OK? Was the cable service and modem working OK with previous PC?

Like Voyagerfan99 I had line troubles, water getting into an old splice when it rained. That only made traffic slow but did not drop the connection. Have you had the line checked as suggested? Have you tried a speedtest?

Settings for TCP/IP all automatic?
