increased performance

I would like to increase the speed of my PhotoShop CS3 actions. Currently the PS program is on it's own hard drive. I have a Dell XPS a few years old with these specs, Windows XP Media Center Edition, 2.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium D, 3584 Megabytes Installed Memory. Could someone tell me what (if any) upgrade(s) would make a real world difference? And if someone could suggest which upgrade part to get. Thanks.

Do you know what graphics card you have?

You have more than enough RAM so, that isn't the problem...

It's probably the CPU that is giving you "slow" actions, something like a Core 2 Duo would be excellent.

Graphics card is Radeon X600 256MB Hyper Memory. I already have a dual core CPU, the new ones must be a good bit better. Which CPU should I consider?

Even the low-end Pentium Dual-Cores would probably beat higher-clocked Pentium D, but if you want a processor that makes some real difference, a Core2 Duos will do good...just make sure your current socket is 775, otherwise you'll have to get a new mobo as well.
