So I want to build a new desktop system, and I was pretty sold on amd's new bulldozer till the benchmarks came out. I have pretty much done all the other research and I know all the other stuff I want except the processor+motherboard.

Can someone with extensive experience and knowledge please give me some suggestions?I want to run autocad/games/other stuff like that so I want something powerful

I was thinking about the i7-2600k on the 1155 socket, but after being convinced on the 8core/4 modules whatever, I cant find it in me to get a mere quad core lol yes I know that sounds stupd considering the 2600k beats the fx 8150 in benchmarks hands down. Also, all of ivy bridge will be using the 1155 socket correct? so I could have those as options later down the road.

Ivy bridge is suppossed to launch q 4 of 2011 right? and what level of cpus can we expect as well as new boards? I think I might just wait for ivy birdge, 3d gates sounds cool lol!

I was also considering the sandy bridge e series, namely the 3930k hexa core running on a 2011 socket. however I dont think that socket will run anything else down the road, except more 500$ cpus maybe. And alot of people say these hexa cores 500$ and up intell cpus dont really give you THAT much more performance per dollar, that they are a waste. yalls opinion?

oh, and cooling. I like the noctua dh14, cosair h100, but noctua is coming out with a new line of heat sinks soon so I dont know what to do here either lol! I might just make a refrigerant system myself, hmm... if you cant tell by now I am going exreme here.

I have done my research, but I just cant decide. I know its alot to read but what do yall think? I just really wanna be sure of what I am getting before I blast 2000$ out of my account $)

well might as well post rest of system too just for advice/feedback and recomendations, and i think a 2600k would be great, but you could get the 2500k for now and a ivy later on, and yes the 6 core/12 threads are faster on threaded apps but that's it and for the money and limited upgrading they tend to only go to enthusiasts and workstations.
 
good point, so ivy bridge is going to remain middle to lower tier then, its not going to touch the extreme and upper i7 category right? I could do that. But I haven't found a 1155 board that I really like that has all the features. dual bios, 4 way crossfire support, etc. Aren't some new 1155 boards coming out with the release of ivy bridge that are suppossed to kick but?

heres what I got so far for the system

case: cooler master haf X
PSU: ocz 1000w 80+gold
GPU: right now amd radeon 6970 but I was thinking of waiting for their 7000series
CPU: still undecided
heatsink: noctua dh14 or corsair h100, any other suggestions, looking for the best aside from extreme custom water cooling
Motherboard: still undecided
Ram: G.skill ripjaws x series 4x4gb sticks, 1600
HardD: 1tb western digital caviar black 7200 rpm
SSD: cosair force series 120g (had the fastest read/write times I could find)
Optical: Asus black blue ray burner/reader etc
Monitor: Asus VH236 23 in, will do eyefinity later on.

Then I got A linskeys wireles n adapter, some cheap UPS (could use some training here as well lol)

and I think thats about it. what do you think?

that's a great build, although for the money the GTX570 is a little faster, but they are both fast enough you wouldn't notice much if any difference. Also ocz isn't the best brand but generally when it's something like that they tend to get better quality.

really 4 way gpus is pointless unless maxing 4 or more monitors out, and then also the psu doesn't have the power for that, if you need more than 2 it would be time to upgrade to a newer one. and also you'd be happy enough if you just drop a 2500k in there for now, you won't even need to get a new cpu when ivy is out, the hardware is way further along than the software and the 2500k prob won't be getting 80+% usage for a few years really other than games like bf3 might be pulling it but that's about it.
 
What you recommend for a psu? I think I might just get a cheap cpu and wait for ivy bridge as well as a cheap gpu for radeon 7000 series. But I cant decide on a motherboard lol and I also hear new boards are being released with ivy bridge.
 
well you can build now with those three gimped out for about 300 (x4 955, gigabyte am3+, and hd5670) or wait another 2-4 months or more possibly. and for the psu it depends on if you want the option to use a second gpu, look for a corsair/antec/xfx/silverstone/seasonic/pc power & cooling 600-650w for the single card and 750-850 for 2, and don't just get a ton of overhead watts as the more excess you have the lower the efficiency is
 
shoot so I would need a 1200watt to run four huh? hmm. what do you think about cooler master?

depends, i've heard i think it was like their gold series is fine, but their lower end ones are only so-so
