Just wondering if I have an infected OS with vundo virus, would it be easier and quicker to get rid of it by just doing a new system reinstall and all my software?

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

This log file will help everyone by telling us important information about your computer, we will look it over and tell you what to fix if anything.

Since you suspect a Vundo infection please do the following.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Pls download the latest hijackthis pls:

Post a Hijackthis Log

  • Download Hijackthis from here
  • Open Hijackthis
  • Click on "Do a system Scan Only"
  • Click on "save log"
  • A notepad window will open
  • Hit Ctrl + A
  • Copy + paste in a forum reply

Then we can go from there.

If after that you are still infected, please post a Hijackthis log. To post a Hijackthis log, please do the following:

I already ran ccleaner, a-squared free, antivir thurough, ad-aware thurough, windows defender thurough so they will not be needed. Anything else is appreciated.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

How is it running now...???

Pls now post a fresh Hijackthis log.
 
In order to run that I have to close all my anti- what ever program and when I try to shutdown my windows xp firewall it won't shut down. When I try to run combofix it says some files could not be created and I believe it because of that. I have already tried this today and for that reason I can't. Any ideas on how to shutdown windows firewall besides through control panel/windows firewall and stop option?

I dont think it's necessary to disable the Firewall.

You shouldn't have to shutdown your Anti-Virus or Firewall.... Try running ComboFix again.

Download and Run ComboFix
