I am planning to but ACER 3212 with foll: configuration:

256 DDR2 533 Mhz
DVD R/W dual layer
14.1" WXGA TFT
Gigabit LAN
802.11 b/g wireless
Intel® 915GM integrated 3D graphics, featuring Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900and up to 128 MB of VRAM, supporting Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0and dual independent display

1.What games would i be able to play on this laptop.

2.I am also planning to but altec lansing 2.1 THX ( Mx5021 ) .Do i need a sound card to support that.

3.Do you recommend any other set of speakers at that price range

4.whats ur take on this configuration ? ( I am not a hardcore gamer however i like to play games like doom3,CS etc...)

You will be very limited on games due to the lack of RAM and i don`t think that GPU would be up for the job playing the latest titles.

I would be very surprised if DOOM 3 would work at all ! on that LAPTOP. If your going for game playing i highly recommend going for a AMD64 based LAPTOP with nVidia/ATi GPU. I think Alienware do some good laptops for gaming, but they are a bit pricy. http://www.alienware.com/

Actually, it may run, but at very low settings. You'd have to share a lot of RAM for the video, but with 256mb only, you'd be running pretty slow. I'd up the RAM first thing.

Good newz is that my laptop has finally arrived with 760mb of RAM,sat & sun went in installing,organising & stuff...
need some good headphones now

As others have said, 256MB of ram is just enough to run Windows and use the internet, but i see you upgraded to 760MB, which is good. The integrated video is holding you back though.
