Inspiron 6400 Ram

I've read on the internet that the Dell Inspiron 6400 only supports 2gb of ram. This confuses me as I'm almost 100% sure they offered me a 3 or 4 gb option when I bought it from Dell...Is there any way to tell, short of actually sticking 3gb in there? I don't have access to a 2gb stick of ram without buying it.

Call dell and ask, I just did a quick search and that is what I came up with too. Or it might be in the user manual.

Well, I called Dell, according the to lady I'm at my maximum. Apparantly according to my order number I only have 1gb of ram, so the the lady kept trying to get me to buy another gig to get it to max, despite how many times I assured her I have 2gb already

Well I guess I'll trust mrs.buyramthatyoucan'tuseanyway and just assume that I'm at the max. It's no big deal, 2gb is enough, I just thought it would be nice to have that extra gig for shits and giggles. Oh well, money I can't spend :( ;)

Well I got the 2gb stick for my eee today, and for the hell of it I stuck it in my Dell...well wouldn't you know it BAM 3gb of ram detected and usable...despite what everyone said (and I mean everyone, not anywhere did it say mine could take more than 2gb). I must have some sort of frankenstein dell or something :P

But if I had known it would work I would have bought 2 of these sticks...Oh well, 2 gigs for the eee and 2 gigs for the dell...and if I decide to get anything else from newegg I'll buy another 2 gig stick.
