This may sound stupid but how hard is it to install a new graphics card into a PC. just a simple AGP4x/8x thingy. Also are there any risks involved.

Sorry wrong thread (dunno how to delete this could some admin do it for me please) I will repost in the correct section.

1. Open up your case
2. Look for the AGP slot, longer slot than PCI one. (mine is near the bottom of the motherboard)
3. If you have something blocking the slot, unscrew it. (I had a small piece of metal.)
4. Slide the card into the slot, make sure its firm.
5. Screw the card in with the screw you took out from the blocking thing.

Just to make sure I will only have 1 of these slots wont I. And if I dont I do have to remove the other card dont I??

Yes.
I think you can only have 1 gfx card in at a time (that will actually work), unless you have a SLI setup or something similar.

4x should be shorter

Mine is at the top.

It should be dark brown, or black, as opposed to thee white of the PCI

Maybe someone can explain how an AGP slot is different size vs a PCI slot? If anything the AGP should be taller (from mobo to top of socket)

My 8x is longer, my 2x was shorter, I don't know what 4x would be.

Yes, it is.

I always just go by color, though. The PCI are all whitish, and the AGP should be the different colored one.

Well the card I got now is in the right slot so I will just yank it out and bung the new one in. Knowing me though I will probably take out some ram or something (if that is even possible) I would not know becasue I have never opened my computer :)

When you take out your old card, there should be a little tab on the far right of the card that you have to push down to get it out......it is not easy to find.

I have faith in you, boy!:D

(OK, maybe not:rolleyes: )

praetor, you know what i've never realized that it was the closest slot to the cpu, went back with some of my super socket 7 mobo's to verify this and surprisingly enough you's right....sorry i just thought it was odd how you knew that as a "fact" but then again the north bridge is right there anyways so, ya know

Which AT board has this AGP as such?

I have no idea, but it was some OEM crap. IGP blew (I wasn't using the AGP) and I threw it out. That was a coupla years ago...bout 2, I think. Aaarrrgghhh, I hate OEM, but my dad doesn't trust me enough to build my own:mad:

LOL this seems to be a re-occuring pattern whenever i ask you for model numbers or details about stuff you talk about ;)
