Hey guys, so i jus bought a 36 gig raptor drive on ebay for 20 bucks! i was like damn, thats a good price, cause i already have 2 250gigs for storage, so i was planning to have this for just the os...

But when i tried to instal vista, it couldn't find the drive.?

It said something about drivers couldn't be found. What are these drivers of which it speaks?

It sounds like you are trying to recognize the drive in windows before you install the OS? If so it wont because it wants you to format the drive. If you plan to run this drive for the OS you should boot it with only it and the optical drive, install the OS or clone the drive from your current boot drive. I have never done a clone yet but you can search this. When I upgrade to a SSD I will clone my main drive.

Cloning the drive makes a mirror of your first drive, you then make it the primary boot drive. If you format your drive you are making it another storage device.

If you have a full retail version of your OP I would just make a new install on the drive without your old drive attached. I did just reinstall an OEM SB OS but had to call Microsoft for a new authenticaiton code. It was a pain but worked.

Sound like you need to format the drive.

I donno about vista, but in XP you would need to go in "Computer management" (Which is in control panle->Administrative tools)

Computer Management has a disk management section which should show ALL your hdds. You can format the drive from there.

I'm pretty sure he's trying to install windows to the drive. For older motherboards you usually need to get the SATA controller drivers and give them to the install by pressing F6 and putting a floppy disk in (or by slipstreaming).
