Install Windows more than once?

Total noob here, so go easy on me :) thx

I am considering using VMWare Player to create a so-called "Virtual Machine," a computer inside my computer so I can run multiple programs at one time that normaly cant be run together.

My question is this... I want to break up my system into 2-4 different "virtual-machines" and will need to install an operating system in each. Can I or will I be able to install Windows more than once for this purpose or will I need to buy 2-4 copies of windows?

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appricaited! Thanks for taking the time :)
 
i believe that depends on what license you have. A stanard license says one cd key = one machine. Microsoft's activation program might give some trouble, if you try to go around it
