To install a video card dont i just go to my computer right click it go to properties and uninstall the current VGA driver, then shut the computer down and install the new card and plug the monitor into that card and start the computer up again? Will i need to install anything for the new card?
Thanks

You need to uninstalll the drivers for the old card, should be in add and remove programs, shut down, install new card, boot up, install the drivers for the new card.

what if the new card for some reason doesn't work how do i install the old drivers back for the onboard card?

Windows has a set of common (read crappy) drivers it will use in the case of no drivers. you'd just boot into safe mode and remove the drivers that aren't working, corrupted, whatever you fancy, you can then boot back into Windows regularly. Then go to the motherboard manufactures site and redownload the onboard video drivers.

Windows should automatically recognize your onboard graphics and install a generic driver. I didn't have to install anything on my old computer which had integrated graphics. Even for Nvidia or ATi graphics cards, Windows will have a set of generic drivers that will be more than enough for 2D work. You just need to install the Nvidia or ATi drivers if you want to play games, because the generic windows drivers do not give you control over Anti-aliasing, AS and other more advanced controls.

haven't installed it yet. i have a grounding bracelet so i think i'll get to it this weekend. Do you think i should install the card even if i do no games? i just really surf the web and watch movies and AIM.

Any other benefits to it? i meen i jsut dont want to install it if it's going to hurt the motherboard/pci slot

since i would be using the card all th e time i just would think it'd damage the pci slot/motherboard sooner than if i just iddn't use it?

Pci slots and motherboards are suprisingly made to withstand a significant amount of force so you should not be worried about damaging anything on the motherboard
