i use vista 34 home basic on AMD Turion 2X 2.0 GHz on my HP laptop. i have installed 2GB additional RAM in compliment with 2GB provided, totalling to 4GB. But my OS shows only 2.25 GB as available memory. I think Vista supports about 4GB. Whats the problem???

you sure its not 3.25 showing?---32bit vista only recognises 3.25gig

you gpu isnt using some of the ram?

seems a little bit drastic missing 1gig of ram

You should really search first because there are tons of topics on this, as I see a thread like this every single day! You have a 32bit OS, you'll need a 64bit OS if you want you see all your memory capacity. Simple as that.

I think my GPU is using the RAM, It shows 256GB dedicated and 1 GB shared. How can i changed that. My system information shows 4GB ram.

I don't think it's possible to change the amount of memory other devices are using, such as video card and sound card. If you had onboard (integrated) video then you can change the amount of memory it uses in the BIOS.

The shared amount in vista is "shared". It is not dedicated to graphics, so it will be used for whatever needs memory - programs or gfx.

^^ Exactly, users have to think differently with Vista whereas with XP we could see and were happy with as much memory being close to the installed as possible.
With Vista memory management is "different" and shared is available to whatever needs it, when it needs it. Not just graphics cards.

Just because you now have a lower figure left out of your installed memory does'nt mean it's going to go "belly up" and fall over.

i am sorry it should be obviously 256 MB not GB.
any way, let me get a more detailed.

i purchased with 2GB RAM and vista home basic pre-installed.
i added 2GB additional RAM and it showed 4GB RAM under the system information(where it shows system rating), but 2.25 GB total physical memory under task manager.

now I upgraded to vista ultimate using a clean install. but now it shows 2.75 GB RAM under the system information.

Where is the rest???
i have ATI Radeon HD3200 GPU which has 256 MB dedicated memory. Is it using the rest??

"Just bumping existing threads above the spam" Means that he is making it so the spam isn't the first thing you see! :P

wow I can't believe no ones helped you yet.
A 32bit OS (I assume that what you meant by 34bit vista) can only recognize 2.25 gbs of ram although its debatable whether the other 1.75gb is still used, by upgrading to a 64bit OS you be able to recognize all 4gb. I wouldn't recommend doing that now but when windows seven comes out definitely upgrade to it as all versions will be 64bit

edit:: I didn't see the first page
