installed new cpu, keeps freezing

i got my quad core. i was going to try flashing the bios, any other thoughts while i try this?

so, actually i think its defective.. it keeps freezing pretty constantly so im going to RMA it.

its defective i tested my dual core and it stopped freezing.

This was confirmed after flashing the bios? Have you checked the mobo is 100% compatible with the CPU? Have you confirmed it's not software related? (perhaps running a Linux Live CD or something)
 
I have only heard of maybe one defective CPU in years and years. I would be willing to bet it is another issue.

That would be nuts if it is really defective:(
 
loaded windows vista just fine with my dual core. the motherboard is 100% compatible with quad core, it recognizes the model # and everything.
 
i googled it and nothing came up about incompatibility. one article said that its kentsfield ready but it needs a bios update for it. the bios update details on DFI's website say that my particular board had an issue with EIST and quad core in windows vista, but i had eist disabled.
