installed ram vs avail ram

trying to figure out why i only have 4.17 GB of available physical memory? as you can see below i have Win7 64 bit and 6GB installed...shouldn't i be able to use much closer to 6GB (w/192 GB max?????)

I'd imagine they are different because the amount being used for system idle processes and all programs that are open amounts to the difference between them.

you have 6GB installed, just under 2GB is being used by your system, you have just over 4GB left over free.

Press ctrl+alt+delete, click task manager, click performance, look at the Physical memory graph, you will see what I mean

yeah i know what you mean, but having just upgraded from a p4 w/ only 1gig ram its just hard to imagine that system resources could take up a whopping 1.7 gig of my mem :(
