Installing a Dru-540A DVD combo

I'm tryin to install a dvd burner (which does work because i took it out of another computer). It's a sony dru-540a, i'm tryin to install it on a dell 2400 inspiron series (1.8 p4). I'm using the cable that's already in the machine (the slave disk 1 ide cable). I plugged that in as well as the DC cable running from the same master drive. I turn the computer on and the light on the new drive is lit (steady light, no blinking) and im expecting it to detect hardware but nothing. I tried searching for it but it didn't detect any new hardware. I unplugged the drive and replugged the 2 cable's thinkin it was a loose cable and now there's no light at all on the drive, it's like there's no power coming to it. Not quite sure what it is, could it be not enough power provided by the power supply? I added a 512mb DDR chip couple of weeks ago but i don't see what that has anything to do with it. Any help at all is appreciated.

hm, not sure, i've never actually checked it out, i'll see if i can take a look
it's funny cause it did turn on the first time around

The PSU wont be an issue (for detection at least) and even on use... it not gonna chew out THAT much power. In either case, just to clarify: do you have master/slave issues? :)

Most OEM Computers usually set the HDD jumpers to CS.
I've seen weird things happen when a DVD Burner and HDD jumpers were both set to CS on the same cable. Set the HDD jumper to master and the DVD Burner to slave.
