installing a second ide hard drive

newbie here. over the last year to save money ive bought components to put in a new case. ive got an asrock lga775 via pt880 quad/core 2 extreme mainboard, intel 4 processor and maxtor 6l200p0 hdd. everything works fine. my problem starts when i tried to install my old hard drive wdc wd800bb-00bsa0. it worked fine in my old case and it has information on it i want to keep. I can't see what im doing wrong. I 've been reading books but they're not very clear on how to connect a 2nd hard drive but there was one that says that the first drive should have it's blue connector connected to the connection on the mainboard, the black part to the first hard drive and the grey connection half way on the ribbon cable to the second drive. Hope that wasn't hard to follow. Can someone tell me if that is correct? I did all that but the second drive does not show up anywhere on the computer - not in bios, device manager or my computer. I beleive i set the jumper right as i did it according to the label on the drive. There must be a connection problem but can anyone tell me where im going wrong? both drives are ide (actually the main drive is ultra ata - that's what it says on the box) - but its connected to an ide port - does it mean anything?

Thanks.

(btw some1 else put the stuff in for me but it was fairly expensive. im broke at the moment that's why im trying to do this bit myself ;)

First thing to check is the jumpers on the back of the drive, it should be set to slave....

although the above is an optical drive you should see a similar thing on the back of the hard drive and a diagram which shows you where to put the pin to change it to slave....

Thanks jimmymac. i set the jumper according to what it says on the old disk drive label to make it the slave but it didn't work. i'll try it your way.

Put it in your way jimmymac but it still did not work. As i was there i fitted in a new dvd drive (took out the old) and i noticed that it had on a power lead with 2 yellow, 2 red and i think 3 black cables going to the power connector to the dvd. the same is for the first hard drive but on the second hdd it only has one of yellow and red but it is the only cable there that is not being used. is that the problem?
