Installing cd roms

Ok so for some reason i took out my cd rom drive to try to put in my old cd burner. but when i have it all hooked up and restart the computer, it says non system disk, insert system disk and press enter(or something along those lines). and now when i put the original cd rom back in it does the exact same thing and i cant even get the computer to boot up unless i unhook it all. PLEASE HELP. i need to install my new opperating system

Check the following,
- that you don't have any CD's still in the drives.
- that you don't have any diskettes in your floppy drive.
- Ensure that the HDD cables are still plugged in correctly & firmly.
