I got an NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800GT card today but I have a problem I have never really tampered around with my computers inside and im a little freaked out what if something goes wrong I dont know any computer savvy people and theres no tech store within 50 miles.

What would be the percentage that if something goes wrong my com is screwed forever? Because it is new also will the gaphics card break.

Something in the manual advised against static what are some good ways to prevent static.

thx

To prevent static just touch the metal part of your case before you install the card. Next make sure you uninstall the drivers for the previous graphics card, then shut your computer down, unplug the power, remove the old graphics card(if any, might be integrated), Install the new one and hook up the power connections. Then reboot and install the latest drivers for your card. Installing a graphics card is pretty simple, and you shouldnt screw up your computer by installing a graphics card. If you dont know how to uninstall the drivers or anything, just reply and we'll try to help;)

Youll want to go into device manager:

Start, Right click my computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager- Windows XP

Start, Right Click my Computer, Properties, on the task pane on the left youll see Device Manager.- Windows Vista

Go under display adapters, find your video card, right click, uninstall, then you will want to shut down(not restart), remove the video card, and install the new one.
