Thinking about buying windows 7,but i do not know if all my software will work on 7. Currently have vista instslled. Also, I have a scanner that runs on xp.
I have heard that you can partition your hard drive with different operating systems. I amwondering if you can partition your hard drive with 3 operating systems and if it would do more harm than good or would I get any benefit out of it.
thank you for your time

You can have as many operating systems as you like. However, I don't see the point in triple-booting, dual-booting is usually enough. In general, any program that runs on Vista will run on 7 and vice versa. If it works on Vista, it will work on XP or 7, so having either of those would be enough, there's no need to hold on to three different installations.

What you can do is install the Windows 7 in the machine and run the other in virtual environment (so if you need something from the others you can always boot to them and do what you need to do)
3 partitions with 3 OSs (one in each) really isnt the best idea..Usually you only get 3 partitions but with only one windows )one part. for windows, one partition for page file, and usually a third for your documents..)
Anyway,at this moment i am running Windows 7 and i upgraded direclty from XP (VISTA wasnt for me...too slow) and i am very happy with 7 so far..
Hope that Helps

Everything that is working under Windows Vista will ALSO work under Windows 7 because they share the SAME programming code.So there is NO need to have Windows 7 AND Windows Vista on the same computer.Windows 7 and Windows XP is enough.Hell even just Windows 7 is enough because you already have the Virtual XP built into it.

Cheers!

If its a scanner by USB,Virtual PC dont gonna help you, only VMW workstation and trhats is payable,if the scanner is by RS232 (serial) or LPT you can attach it to virtual with no problem at all..
Another thing that you can try to do with your scanner is atach it to Windows 7 and put it running in compatible mode or pray that after atched to windows 7 he will automaticaly install the correct drivers for it from internet.
If he doesnt install automatically pick the installer from you CD and copy it to the desktop and right click on it and choose properties,go to Compatibility tab and activate the option that says "Run this Program in compatibilty mode"
click apply and ok.
After that double click on it and install it.
After install go to program files and open the folder where he installed the scanner programs and right click in all programs that you find there and do the same compatibility thing in all of them.
Test it.
Hope that Helps:)
