installing new ram and it all goes away

I have a biostar tforce 6100 motherboard(939) with 4 ram slots, and 2x512 Adata pc3200 ddr 400mhz dual channel sticks installed. I wanted to bump up to 2gigs of ram. So I got 2x512 Ultra sticks with the same numbers(pc3200, 400mhz ect...) When I put all 4 in, my computer reads zero ram, nothing. Seperately, when I put each pair in I get 1gig of ram, that is not my goal. Can some one explain what is going on and how can I fix it so I get 2gigs with what I already have?

What happens if you just put one of the other sticks in? That board should be able to take 4gb, so I dunno here. I've had wierd problems with ram before, and more often than not it's been faulty, but if it shows 2gb with the other two sticks in... Have you tried putting just one stick on its own in each slot individually to see what happens?

I've tried all kinds of combinations, both adata's then both ultra's, it shows 1gig(2x512), all 4 and shows zero ram. 2 of one kind and 1 of the other that shows zero ram, then the other way around still shows zero. I've checked in both bios and in my os, and both are up to date. Is is possible that one set is a few nanoseconds slower that the other an causing it not to read or somethinglike that?

Stuffing any old ram in usually works for me, so I don't see how a motherboard could be that picky... If every slot works with every stick of ram, then I'd be thinking dodgy motherboard

Some 939 boards didnt like to run ram at DDR400 speeds when all four slots are used unless they were single sided. Try putting 2 sticks in, boot up go into the bios a manually set the ram to 166/333, shut down. Reinstall all for sticks and see if i will boot up. If it boots it will run at 333 but you will get to use the whole 2gbs
